purpose to ensure accurate entry of va (veterans affairs) insurance and authorization information for proper billing, compliance, and timely reimbursement when to use use this process when a va patient is scheduled with an approved referral before the patient’s first visit whenever a new va referral or authorization is received responsible role front desk / patient coordinator creates the va insurance policy, case, and authorization billing team (if applicable) verifies accuracy and ensures claims are processed correctly creating a va account select the patient go to insurance choose edit policy update eligibility with the newly approved visits select coverage , then scroll down and enter the approved number of visits enter 0 in rendered outside practice click save go to cases select the most recent case update the date of onset if the patient’s previous date is over a year old go to authorizations click add new authorization enter the following information authorization number va authorization number date requested enter the date a request for services was faxed to va service type 33 chiropractic status approved date approved issued date on referral approved from day patient came in for re exam approved to 90, 60, or 180 days from re exam date, depending on referral total authorized review va referral, it may be 12visits, 6visits or 8visits rendered outside practice 0 click save authorization
