Purpose

To verify a patient’s active CIGNA coverage, review deductible, out-of-pocket, coinsurance, copay, and visit limits, and communicate the patient’s estimated responsibility for chiropractic services.

When

Use this process when a patient has CIGNA insurance and the office needs to confirm benefits before scheduling, checking in, or discussing payment options.

Who

This process should be completed by the front desk, insurance verification coordinator, or designated team member responsible for eligibility and benefit checks.

Procedure

1. Log in to the CIGNA portal

Log into Cigna Insurance portal using office credentials

Hover over Patients → Select Search Patients.

2.Enter patient information

Type the following:

Member ID

First Name

Last Name

Date of Birth

Tip: If there is a space, leave out the last 2 digits.

Click on the Patient ID link (where it says “Covered”).

Confirm correct patient.

3. Verify Network Status

Locate Provider Status.

Confirm: Am I in network for this patient?

Select In Network.

4. Review Financial Details

Acknowledge:

Deductible

Out-of-Pocket

Co-Insurance

Note:

Once Out-of-Pocket is met → Patient is covered at 100%

5. Check Benefits

Go to Benefits Details

Select Procedure Codes Search.

Enter:

Procedure Code: 98941 (Adjustment)

Select:

Place of Service: 11 (Office)

Click Submit.

Select Specialist.

6. Determine Patient Responsibility

Patient will have either:

Co-Insurance OR

Copay

7.Print and Save

Select: Expanded information only

Save as PDF: Last Name, First Name - Year ((2026) Insurance

If deductible applies:

Estimated Patient Responsibility: ~$
